How family sharing works in Mira.
Mira lets a family share a child's care record with the people helping - a co-parent, a grandparent, a nanny, anyone the family trusts - and gives each person their own role. Pick a role below to see exactly what it can see and do.
What can each role do?
Every family member Mira supports falls into one of three roles. A family decides who gets which role when they send an invite - see what each one means below.
Parent
Full access - can edit medications, the care plan, and manage other members.
Usually the parent (or parents) who set up the family in Mira.
- Sees everything in the child's record.
- Logs day-to-day things: doses, meals, symptoms, therapy sessions, and more.
- Adds, edits, or deletes medications, appointments, therapy plans, documents, and the child's profile.
- Exports documents and reports.
- Invites new family members and manages their roles.
Changing or removing another Parent is limited to whoever created the family - everything else a Parent can do, any Parent can do.
Caregiver
Caregiver. Can log doses, meals, and daily care. Can't edit medications or the schedule plan.
For example: a nanny, a babysitter, or a relative helping with day-to-day care.
- Sees everything in the child's record.
- Logs day-to-day things: doses, meals, symptoms, therapy sessions, and more.
- Can't add, edit, or delete medications, appointments, therapy plans, documents, or the child's profile - that stays with a Parent.
- Can't export documents or reports.
- Can't invite or manage other family members.
Good to know: a Parent can individually give one Caregiver permission to also manage records, and can limit which of the family's children a Caregiver sees.
Read-only
Read-only. Can see everything, can't make any changes.
For example: a grandparent, a co-parent, or a doctor who wants to stay in the loop.
- Sees everything in the child's record.
- Can't log, add, edit, or delete anything.
- Can't export documents or reports.
- Can't invite or manage other family members.
Good to know: a Parent can limit which of the family's children a Read-only member sees.
A few things that are true for every role
- No role sees a redacted or summarized record - Read-only really does see everything a Parent sees, just without the ability to change it.
- Nobody can see a family's care record in Mira at all until that family has actually added them as a member - there's no way to stumble onto someone else's child's information.
- A family decides who gets which role, and can change or remove a member's access at any time.
How this works today
Not yet on Family sharing is built and working the way this page describes, but it is switched off at launch while we complete a privacy review for sharing a child's record between adults - at launch, only the account holder can see a child's record.
